Now a Deodorant that Steals the Best Fragrance

Representational Image

If Indian population keeps growing at the current rate, imagine what could happen in future. From the business point of view, there will be a huge opportunity. But at the same time, a huge challenge too. Businesses will open with or without a bang, but they will surely close without a trace because of lack of innovation and staunch competition. Some of this is actually happening in smartphone market. Daily you read about a smartphone launch, and ironically, weekly you hear about a smartphone company launch. Sometimes, imagining the things in future can bring a smile to your face. My imagination just brought me the same. I am sharing with you.

Year 2020: Growing population and overcrowded metros, local trains and buses have left perfume and deodorant companies baffled as customers complain of ineffective of the products. Customers complain they have to use deodorants and perfumes throughout the day to keep the fragrance alive. Because of this dissatisfaction, customers are trying a different product every week in search of an effective fragrance. This has sent the sales of deodorant and perfume companies go trickling down. Realizing the grave situation, all deodorant and perfume companies have come together to make All India Perfume and Deodorant Sellers Union (AIPDSU). The union will try to safeguard the rights (and profits) of these companies by giving a pie of profit of each sale of any product of the member companies to all companies.

However, an interesting development has taken place in the deodorant industry. Recognizing the huge potential of perfumes and deodorants in India, a Chinese company (regarded as Armani of China) has declared an innovative product. The company claims the deodorant has the cloning power. They have named it ‘CloDeo’. The company claims when the deodorant comes in contact with sweat soaked or perfume smelling people in a crowded bus, train, or metro, it catches and attains the best fragrance out of the smells in contact. Thus the person smells the best fragrance and not a mixture of sweat and different perfumes.

However, most of the Indian companies doubt the claim and insist on the proof. The spokesperson of the Chinese brand said the molecules of the liquid have an opposite charge to most of the smells. Thus it attracts all smells and becomes compatible to the best of the smells.
The industry has publicly mocked the Chinese brand. The govt. doesn’t want to comment or take any stand right now. However, among all this, Twitter and Facebook is abuzz with talks of the new product CloDeo. Some people are making fun, but most of the customers are seriously considering buying the product at least once to try.

(In the background: The management of the Chinese company is smiling at all the pre-release publicity of their product. They are banking on the fact that if even 1% of the total deodorant-using customers try their product once, their piled-up inventory of the last complete year will sell, and they can start production of their newly designed product.)
