Failure of e-Governance in UP

Chaos at Bill Payment Center

The Indian govt. has been working on e-Governance for the past few years, and we have seen great improvement in services in many cities and states. However, it is no surprise Uttar Pradesh remains what it is. In an area like Vaishali (in Ghaziabad city), where you have Delhi metro, flats costing crores, top schools and hospitals, dozens shopping malls and multiplexes; there is extreme scarcity of electricity. But that does not go with what the electricity bill reads. Anybody finds it astonishing when the bill is high amid long power cuts. Also, the online system for paying electricity bills doesn’t work correctly. Innumerous people have lost their money while paying online. Thus, every month you will find stressed and distressed people waiting in long queues for paying their electricity bills (Image below). It takes at least an hour (in lean period) to pay your bill. This is metro city Vaishali.
